New Start Services

The assessment is conducted by synthesizing existing data, consumer interviews, labor market surveys, vocational profiles and vocational consultation and provided in the form of a comprehensive written report. * Occupations - Identify any occupational recommendations made by the evaluator are supported by specific testing and professional observations.
* Feasibility - An evaluation in the individual's natural environment (home, school, work, etc.) to determine feasibility for performing specific tasks and identifying strengths and weaknesses throughout a normal or typical 6-8 hour day. Specific areas to be addressed are: observing the individual's ability to lift and carry, ability to grip and hold objects, endurance, physical mobility, independent work rate, general appearance, communication, social interactions, ability to handle stress, observations during breaks, reading and writing activities, attention to tasks, independent sequencing of tasks, initiative, adapting to change, reinforcement needs, interest in working in environment, discrimination skills of work supplies, time awareness, handling of criticism and stress, orienting to the environment, travel skills, etc.

Assesses 49 elements in 6 basic areas: brain dominance, sensory modalities, physical needs, environment, social groupings, and attitudes. Identifies how students learn, think, concentrate, solve problems and master learning activities. The counselor is provided a copy of the assessment for the consumer to complete and then send the completed assessment to the evaluator. The evaluator then mails a personalized 12-17 page written report to the counselor.

A meeting with the counselor, consumer, and any additional interested parties to review any of the above assessment reports.

Copies are provided to the counselor of the evaluation report and supporting reports for the counselor, consumer, and if appropriate, the school system. The above listed prices are in accordance with the current Service Agreement between Georgia Department of Labor, Rehabilitation Services and New Start Services. All above services would also incur travel mileage at current state rate and travel outside of Metro Atlanta would also incur travel time at the current state rate.
